History

The name Bergamot is derived from the city Bergamo in Lombardy where the oil was first sold. This tree is native to South East Asia but was introduced to Europe, and particularly Italy, but is also found in the Ivory Coast, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria.

Ingredients

Note: Top

  1. Vaporisation: Add 5-10 drops of essential oil into warm water by using diffuser.  

  2. Massage: Add 4-5 drops of essential oil into 10ml of carrier oil for facial or body massage or as a home-made body oil after shower. It is very good for muscular and spiritual relaxation.

  3. Bathing: Add 8-10 drops for a full bath. It can stimulates blood circulation and is ideal way to relax.

  4. Inhalation: Add 3-5 drops of essential oil into a bowl of steaming water. Place a towel over the head, close your eyes and inhale deeply. It can help to relieve physical and mental stress, especially headache and respiratory system problems.

  5. Clay mask (Cleansing and Whitening): Add 1-2 drops of essential oils to the mixtures of floral water and clay mask.

  6. Personal skin care product (e.g Shampoo,Bath Gel,Facial cream etc.): Add 4-5drops of essential oils to your own skin care products, create the unique personalised skin care products.

  7. Perfume: Add 4-5 drops of essential oils and 4-10 drops of solubiliser into 10ml water to create your own personalised perfume.

Contra-indication: Avoid before sunbath, Avoid using during pregnancy and breast-feeding

Blending Base Measurement:


1% Essential oil in (5/10/30/50/100)mL = (1/2/6/10/20) drops per volume of essential oil respectively

2% Essential oil in (5/10/30/50/100)mL = (2/4/12/20/40) drops per volume of essential oil respectively

2.5% Essential oil in (5/10/30/50/100)mL = (3/5/15/25/30) drops per volume of essential oil respectively

Eye care = 0.5% Face = 1% - 2% Adult full body = 2% - 2.5%


*Remarks: Thin oil can apply onto skin directly. Thick oil is sticky, diluted with thin oil will be better

Health benefits of bergamot essential oils Bergamot essential oils are one of the commonly used in aromatherapy and have some important health benefits. It is gotten from the bergamot orange peel and has flavoring properties in addition to its health benefits. Research over the years have shown the health benefits of bergamot essential oils, and some of these are; Effective in Cardiovascular, inflammatory, and skin disorders The effects of bergamot; juice, extract, essential oil, and polyphenolic fractions on cardiovascular, inflammatory, skin diseases, and anxiety were summarized in a study. The results showed that bergamot derived extract (flavonoids) had a positive effect on hyperlipidemia after evaluation from 30 days throughout the study (180 days). Also, it significantly reduced body weight, and played a role in modulating total cholesterol, HDL, triglycerides, and LDL. Bergamot juice demonstrated a reduction in pro-inflammatory cytokine and played a role in systolic and diastolic blood pressure reduction. To improve mental health Mental health is an important aspect of life and mental health issues are one of the major concerns globally due to its increase and cost of health care. In a study to evaluate the effectiveness of bergamot essential oils on mental health and well-being. A total number of 57 participants were included of which 50 are women between the ages of 23 and 70 years. The experimental group showed improved feeling (17% more) compared to the control group after a few mins into the study. Psychological stress and anxiety In a study carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of bergamot on psychological stress and anxiety, a total number of 41 healthy females were selected and tested. The participants were voluntarily allocated to three different experimental groups; rest R, rest with water vapor RW and rest with water vapor and bergamot essential oil RWB. All the groups showed an improvement in negative emotions, but the RWB exerts more psychological and physiological effects when compared to the two other groups (R and RW) due to the presence of bergamot essential oils. In a study to evaluate if pretreatment with flumazenil affects the anti-anxiety effectiveness of bergamot essential oils. The results showed that the effects of bergamot are not significantly affected by flumazenil To manage dyslipidemia In a study to evaluate the effectiveness of bergamot on lipids parameters in humans, a systematic review was done and 442 studies were included, but only 12 studies met the eligibility criteria. 75% of the total studies included showed that bergamot is effective in reducing the level of total cholesterol, LDL, and triglycerides. The total decrease in cholesterol varies; LDLc. (from 12.3% to 31.3%, and 7.6% to 40.8%) while a decrease in triglycerides (from 11.5% to 39.5%). Also, bergamot significantly increases the level of HDLc. Effective for some common foodborne pathogens A study investigated the effectiveness of oils and vapor s of lemon, sweet orange, and bergamot towards common foodborne pathogens. Foodborne pathogens that were tested with oils and vapors are Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli O157, and Campylobacter jejuni.
