Skin Care Applications (Jojoba oil: Carrier Oil ) Essential oils mixed with jojoba such as rose, neroli, jasmine and chamomile are not suitable for use in vaporisers or water applications (bath, spray) due to the jojoba. These oils mixes are for topical application as perfumes or for skin care applications. Source: Kerr, J. (2010). Scent in Time: The Return of Aromatherapy. Professional Beauty, (Jan/Feb 2010), 108–109. Aromatherapy massage is a treatment in which essential oils are used. It combines the beneficial effects of manual massage technique, essential and carrier oils. Base oils are the mediators of aromatherapy; they improve contact between the masseur`s hands and the patient's body and have nurturing properties. The present paper focuses on plant oils used for aromatherapy massages, such as olive, sesame, jojoba, almond, wheat germ, grape seed or peach oils. Jojoba oil contains high amounts of tocopherols, which affects its antioxidative and radiation-protective properties. The nurturing effects of jojoba wax are associated with its high content of squalene, which has anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antiradical properties. Source: Michalak, M. (2018). The use of carrier oils in aromatherapy massage and their effect on skin. Archives of Physiotherapy & Global Researches, 22(3). Anti-inflammatory Effect Essential oil has been popularly used as an alternative for the treatment of inflammation. The bioactivities of essential oil from blossoms of Citrus aurantium L. var. amara Engl (CAVAO) showed greater anti-inflammation potential than that of antioxidant, anticancer, and proliferation inhibition. In summary, CAVAO might be a potential candidate for developing new therapeutic supplements. CAVAO at 250 μg/ mL showed greater anti-inflammation potential compared to many other crude extracts or even compounds, such as polysaccharides from Smilax glabra at 400 μg/mL34 and tiliroside at 100 μg/mL.29 This study was a systematic report about bioactivities of essential oil extracted from blossoms of CAVA, and the results paved the way for prospective clinical trials to evaluate the potential anti-inflammation effects of CAVAO.
