HistoryPine wood is widely used in high-value carpentry items such as furniture, window frames, panelling, floors, and roofing, and the resin of some species is an important source of turpentine. It have also been frequently mentioned throughout history, including in literature, paintings and other art, and in religious texts in numerous cultures.

Method of Extraction: Steam distillation
Vaporisation: Add 5-10 drops of essential oil into warm water by using diffuser.
Massage: Add 4-5 drops of essential oil into 10ml of carrier oil for facial or body massage or as a home-made body oil after shower. It is very good for muscular and spiritual relaxation.
Bathing: Add 8-10 drops for a full bath. It can stimulates blood circulation and is ideal way to relax.
Inhalation: Add 3-5 drops of essential oil into a bowl of steaming water. Place a towel over the head, close your eyes and inhale deeply. It can help to relieve physical and mental stress, especially headache and respiratory system problems.
Clay mask (Cleansing and Whitening): Add 1-2 drops of essential oils to the mixtures of floral water and clay mask.
Personal skin care product (e.g Shampoo，Bath Gel，Facial cream etc.): Add 4-5drops of essential oils to your own skin care products, create the unique personalised skin care products.
Perfume: Add 4-5 drops of essential oils and 4-10 drops of solubiliser into 10ml water to create your own personalised perfume.

2% Essential oil in (5/10/30/50/100)mL = (2/4/12/20/40) drops per volume of essential oil respectively
2.5% Essential oil in (5/10/30/50/100)mL = (3/5/15/25/30) drops per volume of essential oil respectively
Eye care = 0.5% Face = 1% - 2% Adult full body = 2% - 2.5%
*Remarks: Thin oil can apply onto skin directly. Thick oil is sticky, diluted with thin oil will be better

Antioxidant activities: Greater Activity Than Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) Pine needle essential oil showed remarkable free radical scavenging and reducing properties which are concentration-dependent. Pine needle essential oil was observed to significantly inhibit peroxidation of egg yolk homogenate. The inhibition ratio was 37.89% at 0.5 μg/mL of pine needle essential oil, and reached 95.73% when the oil concentration increased to 8 μg/mL. The estimated half-inhibitory concentrations (IC50) of the oil and Vc were 0.79 ± 0.75 and 7.72 ± 0.58 μg/mL, respectively. The reducing activity increased with increasing concentration, and pine needle essential oil exhibited greater activity than ascorbic acid (vitamin C). (Zeng, 2012) Antimicrobial Activities: Yeast and Fungi Were More Sensitive than Bcteria In microorganisms and inhibitory zone assay, food-borne microorganisms tested include Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Aspergillus niger, Pencicillium citrinum, Rhizopus oryzae, and Aspergillus flavus. Although pine needle essential oil developed smaller inhibition zones than gentamicin (an antibiotic used to treat several types of bacterial infections), it showed significant inhibition against tested bacteria (E. coli, S. aureus, B. subtilis, and B. cereus), yeast (S. cerevisiae), and fungi (A. niger, P. citrinum, R. oryzae, and A. flavus). The inhibition zones of yeast and fungi tested ranged from 20.47 to 22.93 mm in diameter and those of bacteria were 17.1 to 18.17 mm, suggesting that the yeast and fungi were more sensitive to pine needle essential oil than bacteria. (Zeng, 2012) Anti-inflammatory and Helps Wound Healing In this study, phytochemical composition, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and wound healing activities are investigated. Essential oil composition and the amount of extracts (lipophilic and hydrophilic) of maritime pine wood and fresh cone samples had been tested. The essential oil revealed the highest activities, whereas other parts of the plant did not display any appreciable wound healing, anti-inflammatory, or antioxidant effects. α-Pinene was the main constituent of the essential oil obtained from the cones of P. pinaster.
