Organic Patchouli This is one the important sources of essential oil used in aromatherapy due to its medical properties. The essential oil of organic patchouli can be used to treat conditions such as anxiety, depression, acne, eczema, dandruff, wrinkles, rough cracked skin, scar, deodorant, and be used as an insect repellent. Health benefits of organic patchouli include; Antimicrobial properties In a study to evaluate the antimicrobial property of patchouli by using molecular docking technology and antimicrobial test in vitro. The actions of the two major compounds of patouchi (pogostone and (-)-patchouli alcohol) were tested against six frequently used pathogenic and showed to have a high potent antimicrobial activity. In another study to investigate the prebiotic effect of patchouli essential oil (PEO) and its derived compounds through the modulation of gut microbiota (GM). For 15 days, mice were treated with patchouli alcohol (PA), pogostone (PO) and β-patchoulene (β-PAE) and results showed that they improve the gut epithelial barrier Effects of Platelets The effects of patchouli oil as aroma was evaluated on the platelets MAO-A activity with short and long exposure. The study showed that the aroma of patchouli oil may modulate the blood platelet serotonergic regulation depending on the dose, duration, and conditions of exposure Antioxidant and antimicrobial effects In a study that investigated the antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of leaves from P. cablin extracts. Both water and dry extract were done with highest total phenolic content mg gallic acid and high levels of total flavonoid content respectively. Both extracts of patchouli showed moderate inhibition of superoxide inhibition and nitric oxide (NO) production in concentration-dependent manner with the dry having the most activity against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin sensitive S. aureus, and Streptococcus pyogenes. Skin diseases Due to the high rate of serious skin diseases affecting about 80% in adolescents and young adults (11-30 age), a study was carried out to investigate the effectiveness of essential oil of patchouli and others against bacteria resistance causing acne. It was shown that essential oils of patchouli is effective against acne with a minimum inhibitory concentration in the range of 4 to 50  µg/mL. In another study that investigates the inhibitory effects of patchouli against influenza virus (IV) activities and mechanisms in both in vitro and in vivo. The results showed that patchouli significantly inhibited different influenza virus strains multiplication in vitro, and may block IAV infection through inactivating virus particles directly and interfering with some early stages after virus adsorption. Allergies In a study to investigate the anti‑allergic and anti-inflammatory effects of the aqueous extract of patchouli with the use of mast cells. Anaphylaxis is induced in mice by exposing them to immunoglobulin E and antigen. The results showed that the aqueous extract of patchouli inhibits mast cell‑mediated allergic inflammation by suppressing mast cell degranulation and the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines caused by reduced intracellular calcium levels and the activation of NF-κB and p38 MAPK.
