Organic Lavender Bulgaria Lavender has been identified naturally with the Mediterranean, the Arabia Peninsula, Russia, and Africa. Lavender oil is one of the most valuable aromatherapy oils, its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal activities can be explained by main components such as linalool, linalyl acetate, lavandulol, geraniol, or eucalyptol. Lavender essential oil has been used as an anxiolytic drug, a mood stabilizer, a sedative, spasmolytic, antihypertensive, antimicrobial, analgesic agent as well as a wound healing accelerator. There are various types of lavender species that have been identified including; English lavender (L. angustifolia) the most commonly used of all the spp., Lavandula burnatii, L.dentata, L. dhofarensis, L. latifolia, and L. stoechas (French lavender). They all have ethno-botanical uses and possess similar chemical composition, but differ in their uses due to some differences that exist in the composition. Positive effects on depression Depression is a mental health condition characterized by dysfunction of the mood and has been projected to be behind only heart diseases by year 2020, (Chapman & Perry). A study was carried out to review the effects of aromatherapy with lavender essential oil on depression. A systematic review study was conducted by searching the databases (SID, Magiran, Google-Scholar, Medline via PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science). Some of the studies showed positive effects on depression while others do not. The study concluded that lavender essential oil can be used as a complementary and simple method to improve mild and moderate depression Anti-inflammatory effects A study was carried out to evaluate the effect of Lavandula angustifolia essential oil (LEO) on the acute inflammatory response. LEO showed anti-inflammatory activity, and the mechanism proposed by LEO seems to be, at least in part, involving the participation of prostanoids, nitric oxide, pro-inflammatory cytokines, and histamine. Effective in the treatment of migraine headaches In a study that evaluates the efficacy of lavender essential oil inhalation for the treatment of migraine in a placebo-controlled clinical trial. Forty-seven patients with confirmed cases of migraine were divided into case and control groups. The case group was treated with lavender essential oil and the effects were recorded 30-min intervals for a total of 2 h. The study concluded that lavender essential oil may be an effective and safe treatment modality in the acute management of migraine headaches. Anti-microbial effects A study assessed the anti-microbial effects of two different lavender oils (commercial lavender oil and essential lavender oil from the Crimean Peninsula) on a mixed microbiota from facial skin. The two different lavender oils decreased the cell number of the mixed microbiota from facial skin, but higher efficacy was observed in essential lavender oil, which is probably due to the higher concentrations of monoterpenoids and monoterpenes compared to Crimean lavender.
