Monthly Interview - Juliana -Bowen Therapy Tutor

Treasure Our Knees

We all take our knees for granted. Since we started to walk, knees bear our weights everyday. When we are getting older, knee may tear gradually.

Suddenly simple freedoms like walking up stairs, going down to the local shops, even sitting for any length of time can be more painful than you can bear. It's frustrating not being able to do the things you use to do.

Knees started to have problems, such as arthritis, pain, swelling, knee cap slippery etc. Then it may lead to fracture, torn cartilage or ligament, leg deformation, back pain etc.

There is nothing more the traditional medical could help or to undergo surgery may be the only solutions. However, the success rate of the surgery may not be that satisfy and pain may back again in the future.

Less Is More

Bowen Therapy is a unique, holistic technique. It is a gentle form of body work in which very subtle moves performed over the muscles and connective tissue send messages deep into the body, retrieving cellular of a preferred, relaxed, balanced way of wellbeing. Result can be remarkable, even from the first session; often only a few sessions are needed to correct the presenting problem.

Juliana is our Bowen Therapy tutor and she has been practicing The Original Technique since 1997 and has her own practice & Training Centre in Albany, Western Australia as well as training in Hong Kong, Singapore & Malaysia.

Case Study

One of her clients forced to give up hockey in 1996 because of knee problems. He turned to golf, however started having serious back problems afterward. He first experience was a podiatrist who convinced that his right foot was deformed and needed to have a sleeve inserted into the shoes to square his up.

After three weeks and being in worse pain than before he went to see a physiotherapist. After another three or four weeks he was in that much pain that he could hardly get out of his car. It was then that he was recommended to a chiropractor and said after only one week the pain had disappeared. After six weeks he was fully recovered.

About three years ago he started having trouble even though he was still visiting the chiropractor about once a month. He found the manipulation was now starting to hurt, so off he went to the doctor who then sent him to have x-rays. The result was that he was considered to be a candidate for a hip replacement. He was now prescribed pain killers which he would have to take three per day. At this time he was told that he had high blood pressure and was also taking a pill per day and to make matters worse he was also told by an eye specialist that he was a borderline case for glaucoma and was now using eye drops every day. In sheer desperation he started going back to a physiotherapist for about a month without any satisfaction at all.

Someone suggested he should try Bowen. After about three weeks treatment the pain eased and for the first time in three years he was able to go for long walks. The most interesting thing is, that since he has been walking regularly for nearly two years, he have lost weight and at his last check up with a doctor, blood pressure had lowered and stopped taking the tablets. Of course there is no need to continue to use eye drops.
